Anorectal Abscess/Fistula
Anal Abscess and Rectal Abscess can occur in adults, teenagers, and children. They tend to develop from a process that starts within the anal canal with the infection consolidating in the surrounding tissue. This causes pain from pressure within the surrounding sensitive tissue. The Cryptoglandular origin of these processes is well documented.
Treatment of these disorders is best accomplished by incision and drainage. This is best performed by experienced proctologists as these abscesses surround multiple important structures such as the anal sphincter muscles as well as nerves that control them. Following drainage, depending on other factors, there may be an indication for antibiotics.
Our expert doctors routinely and safely treat these in our office. Patients experience immediate relief in symptoms.
